Teen Motor Vehicle Safety Program

Engaging, educating, and empowering teens to prevent reckless and distracted driving.

Teed Car Safety Program

Program Purpose

Public Health, in partnership with Public Works, is working to reduce traffic injuries and deaths by providing educational presentations that promote safe driving habits among teens and their families.

Program Overview

Public Health is working to reduce traffic injuries and deaths by providing educational presentations that promote safe driving habits among teens and their families through the Teen Motor Vehicle Safety Program. The program is part of a broader traffic safety initiative designed to reduce traffic deaths and serious injuries in communities most impacted by roadway incidents.

Through this program, Public Health engages teens and parents in conversations about safe driving practices. The program provides educational presentations that highlight the risks of reckless and distracted driving and encourages responsible driving behaviors.

The initiative prioritizes outreach in communities with higher traffic safety risks, with a focus on promoting equity and improving safety outcomes.

What the Program Does
Program activities include:

  • Educational presentations for teens and parents
  • Discussions about the dangers of reckless and distracted driving
  • Information on safe driving habits and responsible decision-making
  • Community outreach and engagement

These efforts are designed to help prevent traffic injuries and save lives

Communities Served

The program focuses on reaching communities that have been disproportionately impacted by traffic-related injuries and fatalities.

Educational presentations are offered in the following communities:

  • Florence-Firestone*
  •  East Los Angeles
  • Westmont/West Athens
  • Willowbrook/West Rancho Dominguez

*PLACE has launched its first Vision Zero Teen Motor Vehicle Safety program in Florence-Firestone that will run from 2024-2029. This program is part of the overall Florence-Firestone for All initiative funded by the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program.

Why Teen Driving Safety Matters

Motor vehicle crashes remain one of the leading causes of injury and death for teenagers. Distractions such as texting while driving, speeding, and other risky behaviors significantly increase the chances of serious crashes.

By educating teens early and providing parents with resources, the Teen Motor Vehicle Safety Program works to build safer driving habits and protect young drivers, passengers, and the broader community.
