Become a Substance Use Counselor

Make a Difference That Lasts a Lifetime

Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselors are an integral part of the treatment and recovery process because of their direct interactions and therapeutic relationships with participants and their families. As a counselor, your compassion, lived experience, and empathy go farther as part of a collaborative, innovative team dedicated to addressing the SUD crisis here in Los Angeles County.

SUD Counselors perform intakes, conduct individual and group counseling, and provide support during and after treatment using techniques grounded in science. Counselors receive training from programs (including local community colleges and academies) that specialize in addiction counseling education. This training lays the groundwork for becoming registered and certified.
