Policy
The Office of Environmental Justice Climate and Health (OEJCH) tracks, informs, develops, and evaluates environmental justice and climate health policies at the federal, state and local level with a focus on frontline and vulnerable populations. Our office coordinates with County departments and community stakeholders in policy development and engages with other jurisdictions to develop and share best practices on emerging issues.
Policy is a core prevention strategy and key component to promoting health for communities that face greater environmental risks because of past government practices. Our office works on policy projects addressing a range of topics, informed by research, scientific data, and our experience supporting community response efforts in environmental emergencies. Recent motions by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors have directed OEJCH to establish a safe maximum temperature threshold for rental housing units and provide recommendations to address health and safety risks from oil and gas operations in unincorporated Los Angeles County.
