Zika Information on Post-Travel

When you return from an area with Zika, you still have to protect yourself and those around you. Make sure you do not bring Zika back home with you.

The 3-2-3 Rule

The 3-2-3 Rule is a guideline to follow after you have traveled to an area with Zika even if you do not have symptoms.

Protect yourself from mosquitoes upon return

Even if you do not feel sick, travelers returning from an area with Zika should take these steps to prevent spreading the virus to other people.

Zika virus can be found in a person's blood after they return from their trip. If a mosquito bites that person, then the mosquito could spread the virus to other people.

Prevent mosquito bites for 3 weeks after you return

Men should use condoms or not have sex for at least 3 months
after returning from an area with Zika

Women should use condoms or not have sex for at least 2 months
after returning from an area with Zika.

If both partners traveled, the couple should use condoms or not have sex for at least 3 months after returning from an area with Zika.

If you or your partner have been to an area with Zika, wait to get pregnant.

If you feel sick after returning, see your healthcare provider. Tell your provider where you have been. You and your provider can decide if you need to be tested for Zika virus. Click here to learn more about symptoms and testing for Zika.
