Who We Are
Our Mission
Environmental justice is not just about pollution; it’s about shaping the conditions for everyone to live healthier, safer lives.
What We Do
- Promote fair treatment and meaningful community involvement in the development and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies.
- Empower communities to respond to climate change health impacts and elevate community-led efforts, projects, and organizations to ensure equal protection and justice.
- Prevent adverse health impacts from environmental injustice and climate change.
Why This Work Matters
- Communities that live or work near industrial zones are exposed to toxic chemicals and experience more health effects, such as higher rates of asthma, heart disease, and other health issues.
- Communities that experience higher temperatures and other climate health hazards experience health impacts such as heat stroke and other heat-related illness.
- Low-income communities, and Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) disproportionately face greater exposure to pollution, environmental hazards, and climate health impacts.
- Seniors and children are more vulnerable to climate health impacts.
