Acute Communicable Disease Control
Respiratory and Hand Hygiene
Simple Steps to Avoid Illnesses and Save Lives

Especially during cold and flu season, the importance of effective respiratory and hand hygiene to reduce the spread of disease and illness cannot be overstated. Help raise awareness by educating others on the simple steps they can take to prevent the spread of disease.

This is especially important when it comes to norovirus. Noroviruses are highly contagious and can cause gastroenteritis—an inflammation of the stomach and intestines. Handwashing is strongly recommended to protect yourself and others from getting and spreading norovirus.

Educational materials are available for download and printing, and some items may also be available to order free of charge.

The latest respiratory virus surveillance data for LA County is summarized in our RESPWatch surveillance report. This report describes local influenza, RSV, and COVID-19 surveillance data.
