Overview
On April 5, 2022, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors passed a motion to establish the Office of Environmental Justice and Climate Health (OEJCH). The goal of OEJCH is to advance the County's commitment to improve public health outcomes and reduce public health disparities in communities overburdened by pollution exposure and poor air quality. The directive included the development of a strategic plan and shifting the Office's focus from emergency response to prevention.
Key focus areas of the strategic plan will include:

Communication
Monitoring progress over time and communicating information with partners and stakeholders. -
Community Engagement
Consulting and engaging with partners and stakeholders. -
Data
Identifying data surveillance systems, data dashboards or other data needs to understand current environmental health conditions. -
Interagency Coordination
Coordinating with related County initiatives to clarify roles and responsibilities of various efforts. -
Policy
Setting policy areas of focus to improve public health outcomes and reduce public health disparities in communities overburdened by pollution exposure and poor air quality.
Strategic Planning Process
Over the past five months, the Office of Environmental Justice and Climate Health in collaboration with Estolano Associates and five community-based partners, hosted nine community workshops across the County to invite input to help shape the Office's priorities for the next five years.
The plan is currently being drafted. The next step in the process is to invite community leaders, agency staff, County departments, and stakeholders to provide feedback on the draft plan. It will be posted here soon!
