2004 Public Health Leadership Institute Martha Katz Award

The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services was the proud recipient of the 13th annual Public Health Leadership Institute Martha Katz Project Award. The presentation titled "Building a Better Public Health Response System in Los Angeles County" was a collaborative effort including Dr. Belinda Towns, Sharon Grigsby, Debora Davenport and M. Ricardo Calderón.

"On behalf of my colleagues and on behalf of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, I want to thank the Board of Supervisors for this recognition. Our team was very fortunate last year to be awarded the national "Public Health Leadership Institute Martha Katz Award" for the best Public Health leadership project in the United States.

What I would like to say this morning is that you have staff at the Health Department who are committed and who are doing their best to make our department as productive and effective as possible. And you have people who are very much interested in modeling the way and setting the example not only here in Los Angeles, but for the state, for the nation and internationally."*
