Answer: Family Health Programs (FHP) is the unit within Public Health Programs (PHP) responsible for overseeing the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) assessment, planning, quality assurance, policy development, liaison functions and contractual activities of the Department's Public Health Programs and Services (PHP&S) division. FHP reports through the Director, Family Health Programs and External Relations, to the Director, Public Health and Health Officer. FHP is comprised of three major organizational units: Maternal Health and Family Planning Programs (MHFP); Child and Adolescent Health Programs (CAHP); and Community Outreach and Evaluation Programs (COEP). FHP, in aggregate, employs 70 persons and has a total annual budget of approximately $9 million. The mission of Family Health Programs is to provide leadership, coordination and participation in the planning, development and support of programs designed to ensure optimal maternal and fetal outcome of pregnancy, childhood and adolescent development, and related reproductive and general health promotion and disease prevention services for the residents of Los Angeles County.
