What is a SPA?
Answer: "SPA" is an acronym that stands for "Service Planning Area." Los Angeles County is divided into eight Service Planning Areas.

What are the bounderies of SPA 6?
Answer: The South Service Planning Area (SPA 6) of Los Angeles County stretches from Washington Boulevard on the north to Artesia Boulevard (the 91 Freeway) on the south, and has irregular boundary lines. On the north, SPA 6 borders Los Angeles City communities such as Mid-City, Country Club Park, Pico Union, and Koreatown. The southern tip of downtown Los Angeles and the city boundaries of Vernon, Huntington Park, South Gate, Downey, and Bellflower form the SPA's eastern border. Southern borders align with the city boundaries of Carson and Long Beach, and the unincorporated area of Rancho Dominguez; the southern tip of Compton extends into the South Bay/Harbor Service Planning Area (SPA 8). SPA 6's western boundary proceeds along the borders of neighboring cities of Inglewood and Culver City, extending south and east along portions of La Cienega Boulevard, Fairfax Avenue, Van Ness Avenue, Vermont Avenue, and Figueroa Street. The Harbor Freeway (110) and the Santa Monica Freeway (10) are major north-south and east-west arteries crossing the SPA.
What are the public health services provided within the South Service Planning Area?
Answer: We offer HIV and Sexually Transmitted Disease counseling, testing, health information, diagnosis, and referral as well as STD treatment. The South SPA Public Health Investigators and Nurses will examine certain reportable communicable diseases and provide services to assure the completion of TB Treatment for TB patients and their contacts living in the South SPA. Immunization services are being offered as well as Public Health Registrar (South HC only), Environmental Health (South HC), and Veterinary Services (Ruth Temple Only).

I am concerned about Tuberculosis, what should I do?
Answer: We provide TB screening and treatment for patients and their contacts. Additionally, we can refer you to receive these services at the public health center closest to your place of residence. To obtain information on TB, you may contact the TB Control Program Web site or call (213) 744-6160.

I am concerned about Sexually Transmitted Diseases, what should I do?
Answer: We offer free STD counseling, testing, treatment, and referral at:

on a daily basis(morning and afternoon sessions. You can contact the STD program for additional clinic sites or to obtain information. HIV information and resources can be found at the OAPP (AIDS Program) and HEP (HIV Epidemiology) program sites.

How can I get some information on foodborne illnesses
Answer: Food can become contaminated with a variety of germs. After eating contaminated food, people can develop symptoms often mistakenly referred to as "food poisoning" which at times can potentially be a life-threatening disease. Food Supplies in the U.S. are extremely safe but an estimated 76 million Americans get sick with more than 300,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths from foodborne illnesses each year.
