Over 400 women’s health leaders, experts, providers, researchers, and advocates who attended the 2007 Women’s Health Policy Summit identified the steps necessary to improve the health status of women, especially low-income women and women of color. Workgroup attendees explored issues such as Healthy Aging and the Social Determinants of Health, Immigrant Women and Health, and Adolescence and Healthy Relationships over the course of morning and afternoon sessions
A key outcome of the 10 Summit workgroups was the development of up to five short-term priority policy recommendations per workgroup to improve women’s health and decrease the disparities that currently exist.
The recommendations, presented at the Summit to a Listening Panel of funders, legislators, and other key decision-makers, include the formation of public and private collaboratives to address specific joint concerns, mass media campaigns, increased data collection and targeted initiatives. An implementation plan is being developed by a Summit Leadership Task Force to move the recommendations forward over the next few years, to culminate in effective programs and policies.
