• Acceptable specimens: serum, whole clotted blood, feces, sterile water enema, tissue, exudate or swab samples from the wound.
• Blood must be drawn before administration of C. botulinum antitoxin.
• Stool specimen may be collected before or after C. botulinum antitoxin is administered. Do not collect from toilet, use newspaper, wax paper or bedpan. Submit approximately 100 gm of stool.
• Place specimens other than serum or blood in sterile screw cap container. See instructions for collection of blood and serum.
• Store refrigerated and transport on cold pack.
