The Water Quality Program is
responsible for monitoring ocean water and contact sport
areas and taking appropriate action when water quality
criteria are not met or when an incident, such as a sewage
spill, occurs. This program is also responsible for
regulating small water systems pursuant to state laws and
regulations.
The
program’s responsibilities and services include:

Conducting an ocean water monitoring program which
includes ocean sampling, evaluation of ocean monitoring
data, posting of results on the Internet and a hotline;
emergency response and beach postings and closures:

Receiving and responding to reports of sewage spills
from sanitary sewer agencies and the general public;

Processing applications and issuing permits for
Non-Production Wells;

Conducting inspections and bacteriological monitoring of
fresh water swim areas;

Collecting water samples from small water systems to
monitor the levels of bacteria, chemicals, and other
elements set forth in the State Drinking Water
Standards.
