DEFINITION:
Supervises all computer operations in a multi-shift, small-sized electronic data processing installation.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS:
Positions allocable to this class are distinguished by their responsibility for supervising and coordinating all electronic data processing operations in a multi-shift, small-sized computer installation including computer, key punch, and other support operations.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Plans and schedules the total operations workload for all data processing equipment within the installation.
Assigns, coordinates, supervises, reviews, and evaluates the work of operations personnel.
Prepares annual budget requests for operations in accordance with the projected workload for the coming fiscal year.
Consults with users of terminal equipment concerning problems or procedures.
Recommends original and revised forms and punch card designs for use in machine operations.
Instructs clerical personnel in processing error lists.
Coordinates the flow of input and output data between the electronic data processing installation and other divisions or departments.
Orders supplies for electronic data processing equipment.
Has responsibility for safeguarding operating equipment, program libraries, and tape files.
Assists in site preparation and planning or modification of computer and peripheral equipment layout with the assistance of equipment manufacturers representatives.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
One years experience in the operation of a computer system in a supervisory or lead capacity at the level of Supervising Computer Operator.*
