Vaccination Information

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health provides free flu vaccine to the public. To find a clinic near you check our flu site again upon flu season. In addition,  retail clinics will offer the flu shot for a small fee. To find these clinics, visit the American Lung Association.

• Who Should Get Vaccinated
  • ALL PERSONS, including school aged children, who want to reduce risk of becoming ill or transmitting influenza to others should be vaccinated
    • Children aged 6 months to 8 years should receive 2 doses if not previously vaccinated
    • If children aged 6 months to 8 years received only one dose in their first year of vaccination, they should receive 2 doses the following year
  • People at high risk for complications from the flu, including:
    • Children aged 6 months until their 5th birthday,
    • Pregnant women,
    • People 50 years of age and older, and
    • People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions;
    • People who live in nursing homes and other long term care facilities.
  • People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from flu, including:
    • Household contacts of persons at high risk for complications from the flu (see above)
    • Household contacts and out of home caregivers of children less than 6 months of age (these children are too young to be vaccinated)
    • Healthcare workers.
