Acute Communicable Disease Control
Avian Flu
Note to all healthcare
professionals:
If you suspect that a patient is infected with Avian
Influenza, immediately call Acute Communicable Disease Control
to assist with diagnosis and implementation of infection
control.

Operator)
Key Points:
We are monitoring the situation with highly
pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) infections
among domestic bird populations
The persons at highest risk of infection are
those who work with or live in close proximity
to infected birds
LA County Public Health is working closely
with CDPH and CDC to identify any person who has
been exposed to an infected flock, and to follow
that person to ensure that they get appropriate
testing if they develop symptoms
At the moment, the risk to the general
public from HPAI is low because there is no
evidence that the infection spreads from one
person to another
